Provides support for individuals with disabilities in a variety of community-based work settings, supporting the person towards independence in the work tasks and work environment, including development of natural supports, assist the person receiving services in identifying and communicating his or her requests and needs for services and supports.  Implements services and supports to address the person’s vocational goals and desired outcomes as identified in their Individual Plan of Employment (IPE). Relies on supervision and direction from the Vocational Program Manager.  Requires a high school diploma or GED and experience working with the population supported.

Essential Job Related Responsibilities

Assists with Health and Safety Procedures- Understands, teaches and utilizes proper body mechanics while assisting with behavioral intervention techniques, dependent/independent transfers and positioning of people supported regardless of individual weight distribution. Practices universal medical precautions by understanding and utilizing personal protective and safety equipment.

Coordinates Communication with Employees and Management- Works closely with Vocational Program Manager, and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor  to maintain communication, provide feedback, standardize procedures, and expedite the Individual Plan of Employment (IPE).  Promotes communication between employee (people supported) and employer. Communicates regularly with the worker and his/her team. 

Assists with Job Analysis and Development- Assists with performing job analysis.  Assists in the structure of jobs to facilitate the success of a worker. Assists in developing work sites in which job training can occur.  Provides effective strategies for fading assistance to the least degree possible while maintaining acceptable worker output. Troubleshoots problems that occur in the work site, such as production problems, method of performing tasks, attendance, and relationships with co-workers.

Assists with People Supported Training- Performs hands-on people supported training as people supported qualify for different jobs.  Participates at the work site (where necessary), to ensure the people supported are meeting production criterion, relieve the worker if emergencies arise, and encourage the worker to gradually take on more responsibilities as he/she is able.  Supports the people supported in developing appropriate relationships between co-workers and supervisors. Implements and monitors formal people supported training programs.

Performs Specialist Responsibilities- Ensures confidentiality regarding sensitive issues and material.  Includes people supported rights to privacy, medical data, employee complaints, supervisor and unit problems, investigations, and legal proceedings. Reports to management all suspected or observed incidents of people supported abuse, neglect or exploitation. Implements strategies for training and support by co-workers and supervisors.


Required Education/Experience

Education- High school diploma or (GED)

Experience- Prefer experience working individuals with Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities.
