Job Description

Summary

The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) will follow Supported Employment best practices to provide behavioral health services that foster supportive peer relationships with and among the persons enrolled in supportive employment and other related programs. The CPS will demonstrate the ability to engage and serve the consumers enrolled, contribute to the overall success of the supported employment process, and carry out duties with flexibility and an individual focus.   In addition, the CPS will complete detailed and accurate case notes and other reports to document program measures. The CPS will conduct peer support groups to assist persons enrolled in supported employment to realize their personal goals in employment, education and volunteer opportunities.  The CPS will report directly to the Supported Employment Team Leader, (Employment Service Coordinator) on all matters pertinent to the successful obtainment of program goals and standards.

Assists with Recordkeeping and Filing- Responsible for Personnel recordkeeping for employees, complete and accurate. Personnel files, administers personnel administration in accordance with prescribed company standards. Prepares all periodic Personnel reports as prescribed by Corporate Human Resources and facility Administrator.

Assists with Employee Hiring and Recruitment- Assists with the facility staffing process, to include offer letters and background checks; creates/posts internal job postings; runs advertisements as required.

Assists with Peer Support Development and Outcomes- Complete detailed and accurate case notes and other reports to document program measures. Conduct peer support groups to assist persons enrolled in supported employment to realize their personal goals in employment, education and volunteer opportunities

Performs Assistant Responsibilities- Performs all necessary administration for new hires and coordinates/implements facility NEO program. Responsible for preparing/administering payroll function. Maintains OSHA 300 log. Coordinates unemployment claims with facility administrator.

Required Working Conditions

Office-While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and consistent with that of an office environment.

 

Essential Qualifications/Skills

Language- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and speak in front of a group, respond to questions from employees, people supported, government officials and the general public.

 

Mathematical -Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as addition, multiplication, division, percentages.

 

Reasoning- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

 

Essential Physical and Sensory Requirements-With or without the aid of mechanical devices

Light - Regularly required to lift 10 lbs. Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 lbs. Must be able to pull minimum of 10 lbs. Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop.  Must be able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.  Required to regularly stand and walk.  Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in CPR from the floor level requiring to work on hands, knees, bending, standing and lifting.  Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.  Must be able to talk and hear.  



 



 



Job Requirements


Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree preferred or Associate’s or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in recruiting and job placement, preferred.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug-screening exam.

Required Licenses/Certifications

A valid North Carolina driver’s license may be required.  Personal auto liability insurance is mandatory if transporting service users in private/personal vehicle. Maintain proficiency in company sponsored/required training.  The following certifications may be required: CPR, First Aid, NCI A, NCI B, CPI, and/or others as specified/required by state and federal standards/regulations and/or company policy Organizational and communication skills. Strong organizational and communication skills.

Additional requirements of the Peer Support Specialist include: 

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
  • 1 year of experience working with persons with the population supported
  • Certified as a Peer Support Specialist or 1 continuous year as a current or former recipient of treatment (including mental health/substance abuse treatment or diagnosis) and eligibility for certification as Peer Support Specialist by the governing agency
  • Must complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of training specific to the required components of the specific service definition including crisis response within the first 90 days of employment
  • Valid drivers’ license and automotive insurance
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen
  • CPR, first aid, NCI and/or role related certification, a plus
