RHA Health Services  is looking for passionate, driven, and resourceful candidates for our  Employment Specialist  positions for our  CHARTLOTTE based vocational program. We are specifically looking for individuals that can provide services in any of the following areas: GASTON, LINCOLN or MECKLENBURG Counties.

Job Summary

Our Employment Specialists provide support for individuals and/or groups of persons with disabilities in variety of community-based work settings, supporting the person towards independence in the work tasks and work environment.  This includes the development of natural supports, assisting the person(s) receiving services in identifying and communicating his or her requests and needs for services and supports.  Our Employment Specialists implements services and supports to address the person’s vocational goals and desired outcomes as identified through each consumer’s Individual Plan of Employment (IPE).

  • Provide services to clients in a manner consistent with RHA Health Services mission statement.
  • Positively represent RHA Health Services whenever in the community.
  • Follow all authorizing body regulations as well as RHA Services Policy and Procedures.
  • Use OSHA’s universal precautions
  • Accomplish a minimum of two job placements per month.
  • Notify supervisor of any situation that endangers a person or does not follow company policy.
  • Report any and all incidents to supervisor immediately and complete incident report.
  • Report any contact with an authorizing body to the Employment Services Coordinator for that case.
  • Assist the person served in achieving their employment goals outlined in their Individualized Vocational Plan
  • Knowledgeable of all services provided to the person served.
  • Analyze the person served skills, interest, work preferences and needs to make good job matches.
  • Assist the person served in creating a resume, letter of references, and filling out applications.
  • Assist the person served in bus use and solving other transportation issues and barriers.
  • Assist the person served in job searches using all resources such as Employment Security Commission, the Internet, Newspaper, Job Fairs, and marketing the Employment Services Program to perspective employers.
  • Transport the person served in a safe manner.
  • Visit job sites, observe job tasks, set up and accompany the person served at interviews.
  • Analyze job sites for potential job opportunities and identify work skills required.
  • Assist employers in training through task analysis.
  • Facilitate natural work place supports through advocacy with employers, co-workers, family members, and the community.
  • Complete all service documentation including but, not limited to the following:  service notes, incident reports on the appropriate form and in a thorough and timely manner, as required by State, Federal, and RHA Health Services rules, statutes, policy and procedure, and RHA Health Services service operation manuals.
  • Accurately complete all documentation within 24 hours of the service provided.
  • Assure that service documentation clearly is clearly written, reflects the specific goals in the service plan.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients and guardians.
  • Participate in monthly staffings held at the local VR offices.
  • Attend client team meetings as required by the Employment Services Coordinator.
  • Maintain current training requirements and personnel record.
  • Other duties as required by the Employment Services Coordinator or Operations Manager.
  • Assure that staff vehicle is safe and in good working order, as applicable
  • Provide direct supervisor and support team with ideas/suggestions of how service provision can be improved.
  • Maintain liability insurance.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate for the Employment Specialist position must have a flexible schedule and reliable transportation. Previous experience preferred, but we are willing to train the right person.

Education/Experience/Certifications/Licenses/Physical Demands
  • Minimum - High school diploma or (GED) and 1 years of experience in an employment program or human service field.
  • Preferred - A Bachelors degree and 2 years of experience in an employment program. 
  • Prefer experience working with MR/DD individuals. 
  • Prefer experience working with mental health individuals. 
  • Valid drivers license including personal vehicle insurance coverage. 
  • Maintain proficiency in company sponsored training and certification.
  • Must complete/obtain/ and maintain certification in CPR, NCI, and other training as required by RHA Health Services.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
