RHA Howell is looking for a personable, energetic and dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant II (CNA II) to join our home caregiver team.

The nature of the role by design is not glamorous, can be difficult at times and requires hard work but the reward is immeasurable!

This is a highly rewarding entry-level role.  Our CNA IIs are responsible for providing prescribed medical treatment and personal care and services to persons with disabilities in residential homes and/or vocational centers for a single location of business.  


RHA Howell's Certified Nursing Assistant IIs will directly assist the nursing staff within the scope of practice approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Works directly under the supervision of the nursing staff performing Board approved duties.
  • Maintains work area as neat, orderly, efficient and safe working area.

  • Keeps nursing staff informed of any changing in service users’ status.

  • Keeps Director of Nursing and/or Charge Nurse/Team Leader informed of any difficulties in performing duties.

  • Observes service users’ needs and reports as needed.

  • Participates in the Quality Assurance Assessment system; Mealtime Assessment, Environmental Assessment; Interaction Assessment and Third Shift Assessment.

  • Performs sterile dressing changes for wounds over 48 hours old and follow principles of sterile techniques at all times.

  • Administers gastrostomy feedings/flushes.

  • Administers oral/nasogastric feedings.

  • Adds enteral feeds to existing influsions.

  • Clamps feeding tubes.

  • Performs urinary catheterization.

  • Performs catheter irrigation

  • Performs ostomy care on established ostomies.

  • Assembles and flushes tubing during set up.

  • Observes infusion flow rates.

  • Peripheral I.V. care limited to: Site Care & Removal of I.V.

  • Performs irrigations (non-medical solution for local effects only)

  • Care of established tracheotomy:  Oropharyngeal & Nasopharyngeal

  • Suctioning

  • Range of Motion

  • Enemas

  • Inserts rectal tubes

  • Heights and Weights

  • Break up and removal of fecal impactions

  • Apply hypothermia unit

  • Oxygen therapy-observation and maintenance

  • Finger sticks for blood glucose testing.

  • Obtain vital signs.

  • Wound irrigation

  • Apply ace bandages, ties and binders

Job Requirements

Our ideal Certified Nursing Assistant II (CNA II) has excellent listening and communication skills, can pick up on nonverbal communication and is eager to work on nonstandard nursing assignments.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Completed an approved CNA II training program, being currently listed with the Department of Facility Services in the State of North Carolina, and listed with the Nursing Board. Ability to complete approved tasks for CNA II.

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations:
  • A valid North Carolina driver’s license may be required.
  • Personal auto liability insurance is mandatory if transporting service users in private/personal vehicle(s).
  • Medication Technician certification may be required.

Other Skills & Abilities:
  • Maintain proficiency in company sponsored/required training. The following certifications may be required: CPR, First Aid, NCI A, NCI B, CPI, and/or others as specified/required by state and federal standards/regulations and/or company policy.
  • Some Medical terminology.
